Celebrating Success: November 2016

Celebrating Success: November 2016

As each November rolls around, we here at OVO like to take the time to reflect on the many wonderful things we have to be thankful for.  We are thankful for our staff, real life superheroes saving and changing lives every day.  We are thankful for our Board of Directors, who selflessly volunteer their time and talents in guiding this agency.  We are thankful for the generosity of the community that we serve and the individuals, families, and businesses that support OVO and the work we do.  We are thankful for another success-filled month and all of the amazing work we were able to accomplish throughout November.  Here are some of the great successes we had during the month of November:

  • We were very excited to open the Jennings County Section 8 Waiting list this month!  We accepted 118 applicants for the list, which well surpassed our personal goal of one hundred.  We look forward to serving new families on our program and help them to secure quality and affordable housing!
  • Thank you to WJCP Radio out of North Vernon for inviting OVO to come on the Tom Taylor Show in the morning and share some great information on our Section 8 Waiting List opening in that county as well as how to apply for Energy Assistance.  We had a great response from the community and were very grateful for such a wonderful way to do community outreach over the airwaves!
  • Our first ever Giving Tuesday Campaign was a resounding success and raised over $1,400 for OVO!
  • Energy Assistance was able to restore utilities for Christina and her family just in time for the Thanksgiving holiday!
  • Congratulations to Holly Toler, a Teacher Assistant/Bus Driver at our Madison Head Start Center, on earning her CDL!
  • Section 8 welcomed 3 new families this month to the program!
  • Our Head Start Program installed dishwashers at 3 of our Centers!  We wash thousands of dishes every day feeding our preschoolers delicious and nutritious meals, so these dishwashers are a huge time and effort saver for our Nutrition Specialists!
  • Thank you to Meadows Cemetery Company for volunteering their time and equipment to landscape our Scott County Head Start Center!

To all of you, we wish you a Happy Thanksgiving and best wishes during this holiday season!
